Google is introducing Google One

Google One

Coming to a computer near you, very soon, is “Google One“.

Initially it will only be available to you if you already have a paid-for Google Drive account. Your account will be migrated seamlessly, once it is offered in the UK.

Google Drive allows you to save your files and documents in “the Cloud”, through your Google account, making them accessible to you from any computer connected to the internet. Your Google account is used to store data across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos.

Google Drive comes in 2 flavours – free or paid-for. If you have the free version it has a limited amount of space, although this is a very healthy 15 GB.

The paid for version is just the same, but you can buy greater amounts of storage space. And now you will be the first to benefit from Google One, once it is rolled out to the UK.

Currently, Google Drive monthly fees are £1.59 for 100 GB, £7.99 for 1 TB and £15.99 for 2 TB. (Bigger space options are available.)

The new Google One pricing is likely to be £1.59 for 100 GB, probably £2.99 for the new 200 GB option and £7.99 for 2 TB. (The 1 TB option will disappear. If you already have a 1 TB Google Drive account this will be upgraded, at no extra cost, to 2 TB.)

You will, of course, be able to upgrade as your requirement grows. You can also downgrade, the same as you can now, at the end of a contract period, (monthly or annually, depending on how you pay.)

One great additional benefit is that your Google One storage space can be shared between up to 5 family members, at no extra cost, with each person getting their own private space.

Paying customers will also get “one tap” access to live Google experts, when you need support on Google products. You may also get discounts on apps bought through Google Play and on some hotels booked through Google.

We assume that Google One will eventually become the only Google account that you need as it will incorporate everything Google under the one banner.
